Meet the Producer: Christian Okami

Unnamed

Timothy Armstrong, BKA as +Okami (Christian Okami), formally known as "TunaButter", is a classically trained pianist from the age of 3 who was equally raised in a deeply musical family with his multi talented sister, Autumn "The Painted Lady". His father, Clarence "Beaver" Armstrong, and mother, Dorothy, were background studio singers and writer/ musician/ arrangers working with musicians such as Edwin Starr, Joe Sample, Monk Montgomery and Henry Franklin before delving fully into the Gospel Choir world shortly after +Okami was born. This crossing of parallel musical worlds and cultures from his multi-ethnicity laid the ground work from the morphing of beat maker to contemporary keys/ synths and music producer whilst becoming a studio swiss-army knife after graduating from the Berklee College of Music in Contemporary Writing and Production.

Various roles as SynthMaster, pianist, composer, band arranger, orchestrator, vocal producer, sound designer, studio-tech, engineer and song writer have been shared with

Creative/ collaborative relationships including Jamie Way/ Press Rewind, Chief Xcel/ Blackalicious/ Quannum, Zap Mama, Rain Bisou, Chris Lie, Pablo Stennett/ Branat Music, Phillip Giffin, The Breakfast club production team (Hayes RIP, Mac, Bird & SJ), DJ Adam Martin, The Painted Lady/ Autie Bird, Aaron Burrus, GRANE Entertainment/ Kevin Reynolds, Indiana Grace, FOWL, Keholm Music/ Meeshu, Awkward Life Band, Sound n Vibe Studios and many others!

Current works with Chief XCel of Blackalicious/ Quannam in the Bay Area and Jamie Way via Oslo Records has spawned recent critically lauded albums: Imani, Vol 1 with Blackalicious, and Epilogues with Chris Lie. Both released September 2015.

Another recent project of note is his involvement as an engineer and co-producer with Grammy award winner, Pablo Stennett, for the “We Are Tomorrow” campaign. The record is a shared vision between Pablo Stennett, Michael Brynteson of Sony Interactive and Michael Garrity of Global Film Group, and sung by emerging singer/songwriter Emree Franklin.

Currently, +Okami has been focusing on developing piano/ singer/ songwriter Indiana Grace with her new EP while also completing his full length album with artist Rain Bisou, which is slated to have orchestration cut at the famous Abbey Road Studios.
